Chandan Kumar Vishwakarma
Chandan comes from eastern India and finished his schooling in Dhanbad. During his early academic career, his strong passion for mathematics influenced his academic and research trajectory in physics. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Physics from VBU Hazaribag, India, and later pursued his Master's degree in Physics from the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. He conducted experimental research at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on rare-earth-doped inorganic glasses for upconversion emission. Even though he excelled in experimental research, he became increasingly interested in Computational Condensed Matter Physics (CCMP). As a result, Chandan moved to IIT Delhi in 2017 to pursue his doctoral degree and completed his PhD in CCMP under the guidance of Prof. B. K. Mani. His doctoral thesis focused on studying the optical and thermoelectric properties of state-of-the-art materials. After completing his PhD, Chandan joined Prof. Chris Van de Walle's group at UCSB in April 2024 as a postdoctoral fellow.
As a Quantum Foundry postdoctoral associate, Chandan is using computational techniques to investigate defects in diamond crystals for quantum information processing applications.
