Jayameenakshi Venkatraman

UC Santa Barbara

Bio: Jaya, originally from Bangalore, India, earned her BS in physics from IIT Kanpur. She was introduced to quantum optics during undergraduate research with Anand Kumar Jha. In 2015 and 2016, she worked with Alexandre Blais at Université de Sherbrooke on fast resonator reset, employing optimal control theory. In 2016, she began her Ph.D. in circuitQED with Michel Devoret at Yale University. While there, she developed experimental and theoretical tools to control superconducting circuits submitted to microwave drives for bosonic codes and continuous variable quantum computation. At UCSB, she is exploring the hybrid quantum world of spins, acoustics, and circuits for improved quantum sensing and computation. Outside of Physics, Jaya enjoys being immersed in nature and occasionally dabbles in the ancient Indian art forms of Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam.
