Lillian Thiel
Biography
Lilli comes from the Seattle area and completed her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at the University of Washington. Before coming to UC Santa Barbara, she also completed her master’s at the UW. Advised by Prof. Kai-Mei Fu, her thesis focused on post-fabrication trimming of ring resonators for quantum frequency conversion. Her research interests include optical quantum computing, nonlinear optics, and nanophotonics. Outside of the lab, Lilli enjoys hiking, horseback riding, coffee (she also enjoys lots of coffee in the lab), and hopefully soon surfing. Recommended reading: Nielsen and Chuang’s Quantum Computation and Quantum Information, which covers an incredible range of topics in quantum information, both fundamentals and applications, with great writing.
