Biography

Trevor is a first year Materials Ph.D. student in Professor John Bowers group working on silicon and III-V semiconductor photonics. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2019. During his time at the University of Minnesota, Trevor conducted research on crystallization in organic semiconductors with the desire to improve the efficiency of OLEDs. His work led to the demonstration of a tunable, self-assembling, oscillatory surface pattern that forms during the crystallization of several organic semiconductor materials. At UCSB, Trevor is researching different coupling strategies for optical fiber-to-chip coupling in silicon. Additionally, he is simulating passive component design for gallium arsenide and silicon photonics. His current project through the Quantum Foundry utilizes gallium arsenide ring resonators to create entangled photon pairs. This project hopes to improve the generation rate and fidelity of entangled photon pairs for use in quantum teleportation, quantum computing or other quantum information tasks. In his free time, Trevor loves to rock climb, surf and hike.
