"World Quantum Day is celebrated on April 14, a reference to 4.14, the rounded first digits of Planck’s constant: 4.1356677×10−15 eV⋅s = 0.000 000 000 000 004 1356677 electron volt second, a product of energy and time that is the fundamental constant governing quantum physics."

UCSB Quantum Foundry and CSEP welcomed Santa Barbara Junior High students who came to the UCSB campus to visit on World Quantum Day, a worldwide celebration of quantum science and technology. Each year on April 14th, universities, international organizations, scientists, and government agencies around the world recognize World Quantum Day, a grassroots celebration of quantum science. Santa Barbara Junior High students were given the opportunity to come to the UCSB campus to tour some of the Quantum Foundry labs and participate in hands-on learning activities. Students also learned about quantum from the UCSB Quander group through their video games.

This April 14th celebration aims at engaging the general public, especially young students like our Santa Barbara Junior High guests, in the understanding and discussion of Quantum Science and Technology. Most importantly focusing on how it helped us develop technologies that are crucial for our lives today as well as how it helps us understand nature at its most fundamental level. The main goal is to determine how it can lead to future scientific and technological revolutions, and how these can impact our society in positive ways.
